Melissa Alfonso, born and raised in New Jersey, found her passion for law at a young age. Starting her journey early in the field at Fairleigh Dickinson University, majoring in Criminal Justice and Psychology. Knowing that the cold was not for her she made her way to Florida in 2005 to finish her academic career. Melissa ended up at Florida International University where she switched her major to political science and added a minor in psychology and Spanish. While in college she began to build her connection with the law by working for a Family Law solo practitioner. This was the spark to ignite her passion for the interests of the clients.
After finishing her undergraduate career she pursued law school in the fall of 2008 at Barry University School of Law. While in law school, Melissa was invited to join the Trial Advocacy Team through which she gained a lot of trial experience by competing as an advocate in five competitions regarding civil cases such as, strict products liability, breach of warranty, wrongful death, and negligence/trucking accident. In addition to her skill in advocacy, Melissa began to build her connections with her colleagues by becoming the social chairwoman of Hispanic Association of Law Students, and vice president of International Law Student Association. Throughout law school, Melissa also interned at the Orange County State Attorney’s Office in the Felony Division and worked as a legal assistant and law clerk for two local personal injury firms.
Going into her final year of law school she had built a rapport with many colleagues and attorneys as being a young talented advocate as well as client centered. She was so aspirational that she was offered a job at a firm before even passing the bar and was admitted to practice in November 2011.
The first two years of practicing, Melissa focused on personal injury, working both on the Plaintiff side and for Insurance companies. In the past year, she opened up her own firm and is of-counsel for two local firms focusing on foreclosure defense, criminal defense, and family law cases in the Central Florida area.
